Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a senior data governance leader to guide and advance the enterprise program. The role provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure trusted, secure, well-defined data aligned with regulatory needs and organizational requirements.

You will liaise between clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders, driving governance initiatives that support patient care, regulatory compliance, research, and data-driven decision-making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare Informatics, or related field.
• Minimum five years of experience in data governance, analytics, BI or related field.
• Experience leading governance initiatives and teams; healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the enterprise data governance framework, platforms, policies, standards, and operating procedures to support regulatory reporting, audits, accreditation requirements, and enterprise data strategy.
• Ensure data governance initiatives align with organizational priorities, healthcare regulatory requirements, privacy standards, and applicable requirements such as HIPAA and Joint Commission standards.
• Establish, maintain, and mature governance models, including data ownership, stewardship structures, accountability frameworks, and decision-making processes.
• Provide leadership, direction, prioritization, and mentorship to analysts, developers, engineers, and other contributors supporting data governance initiatives.
• Oversee enterprise data quality programs, including defining metrics, thresholds, monitoring processes, and improvement strategies across clinical, financial, and operational domains.
• Partner with compliance, legal, security, and operational teams to ensure appropriate handling of PHI, mitigate data risks, and improve data integrity, consistency, and usability.
• Lead and facilitate enterprise and domain-specific data governance workgroups, including clinical, revenue cycle, and quality groups, to drive decisions on data definitions, standards, and quality improvements.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for senior leaders, directors, and cross-functional teams on data governance matters, priorities, and issue resolution.
• Drive organizational adoption of governance practices through effective communication, training, stakeholder engagement, and change management strategies.
• Define standards and best practices for metadata management, business glossary development, data lineage, data classification, and governance documentation.
• Oversee onboarding and governance of critical data assets within catalog tools, ensuring appropriate stewardship, documentation, usability, and ongoing maintenance.
• Define, monitor, and report KPIs for data governance effectiveness while leading continuous improvement initiatives to enhance governance processes, workflows, and stakeholder engagement.
