Job summary

Avalon Healthcare Solutions is seeking a Reporting Business Analyst to bridge business needs with data engineering, delivering actionable insights via Tableau and Snowflake-backed reporting. You will translate complex requirements, design data models, and validate data to enable improved lab utilization and healthcare performance.

Ideal candidates bring 7–10 years in health plan analytics, strong SQL, and experience with Snowflake/Tableau, plus familiarity with HIPAA and SDLC/Agile processes.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years as a business or operations analyst in a health plan IT or operational environment.
• Undergraduate degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Health Informatics, Public Health, or related field; equivalent healthcare data analysis experience may be considered.
• Experience with healthcare data in a data warehousing or analytics environment, preferably Snowflake and Tableau.
• Background in Utilization Management (UM), medical management systems, or prior authorization workflows.
• Understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance programs, including coverage variations.
• Proven experience facilitating stakeholder and client meetings to gather, validate, and prioritize reporting requirements.
• Ability to document business and technical requirements and collaborate with developers to translate into functionality.
• Hands-on data validation, QA/testing, and troubleshooting within analytic pipelines.
• Familiarity with Agile, SDLC, and tools such as JIRA/Confluence.
• Knowledge of clinical or laboratory data (HL7, EMR/EHR, lab feeds) is a plus.
• Strong SQL skills and understanding of database structures and performance.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with business, clinical operations, and IT teams to gather and document analytics and data requirements.
• Translate stakeholders' needs into functional specifications, mappings, and process documents.
• Design, develop, and maintain Tableau dashboards that reveal lab utilization and operational patterns.
• Perform data validation, root-cause analysis, and data reconciliation for reporting accuracy.
• Present findings and recommendations through visuals and written summaries to stakeholders.
• Support enhancements to data models, pipelines, and Snowflake-based reporting for scalability.
• Work with policy, clinical operations, and analytics teams to measure impact of changes.
• Bridge the gap between developers and business users on data definitions and outputs.
• Lead requirements sessions and cross-functional workgroups for timely delivery.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and best practices in data privacy and security.
