Job summary

Global Fund for a New Economy is seeking a Grant and Fund Accounting Consultant to support the Director of Finance. The role is an independent contractor, ~20 hours per week, fully remote, with a steady cadence and regular interaction with an external accounting firm for month-end close, audits, and funder reporting.

You will review coding, manage grant budgets, and ensure timely, accurate financial statements and compliance across programs.

Qualifications

• Around 5+ years of accounting experience, with a strong grounding in grant and fund accounting.
• Experience in the nonprofit sector, including restricted and unrestricted fund accounting and funder reporting.
• Working knowledge of US nonprofit accounting standards and the Form 990; familiarity with single audit is a plus.
• Comfort working with an external accounting firm and coordinating a monthly close and annual audit.
• Proficiency with accounting systems such as QuickBooks Online and grants management tools.

Responsibilities

• Serve as day-to-day point of contact for the external accounting firm; respond to documentation requests and approvals.
• Package and route source documents to the firm on a regular cadence for timely monthly close.
• Answer routine fund/grant coding questions drawing on award budgets and restrictions.
• Track open items and follow up with the firm to avoid delays in close, audit, or funder reporting deadlines.
• Coordinate the annual audit and Form 990 preparation with firm, auditors, and GFNE staff.
