Job summary

Gowanus Canal Conservancy in New York seeks a Communications & Outreach Coordinator to advance our engagement of varied stakeholders through strategic messaging across digital and print channels.

You will draft content, design visuals, produce video assets, manage social media, the GCC e-newsletter, and support the redesign of our website in 2026. Flexible schedule, 25-30 hours weekly, with some evenings and Saturdays expected. The position runs April–November 2026.

Qualifications

• Experience using social media platforms for organizational communications, including Instagram and LinkedIn.
• Experience with Mailchimp or similar marketing platforms.
• Strong writing, copy-editing, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in graphic design and basic video production/editing.
• Experience with WordPress, Squarespace and website content updates.
• Excellent organization and project management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement communications strategies and annual objectives within GCC’s strategic plan.
• Draft text, create graphics and videos about programs to boost presence across platforms.
• Track and report communications metrics and outcomes.
• Support special publications such as the Annual Report and events.
• Launch and coordinate the new website project and related asset management.
• Maintain Sustainer program communications and donor lists.
