Job summary

The State of Wisconsin Department of Revenue seeks a Revenue Auditor 2 or 3 to join the Fraud Unit in the Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Tax Enforcement, based in Madison. This role focuses on reviewing and resolving potentially fraudulent income tax returns and may develop processing rules to detect fraud.

Starting pay varies by level and experience, with additional $1/hour for active CPA licenses. Remote work up to 60% after probation, Monday–Friday day shifts, and comprehensive

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in accounting or taxation from an accredited institution.
• Experience reviewing or auditing income tax returns.
• Experience interpreting statutes, rules, and policies.
• Experience researching complex technical issues.
• Experience using Microsoft Office 365 software (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).

Responsibilities

• Review and resolve potentially fraudulent individual income tax returns.
• Assist in developing return processing rules to detect fraud.
• Audit returns to determine tax payable and investigate identity theft.
• Advance cases to criminal investigation when fraud is detected.
