Qualifications

• 10+ years of accounting or finance experience.
• 5+ years of experience as a CFO (full-time or fractional).
• Strong advisory presence; able to explain numbers and recommend actions.
• Proven ability to build budgets, cash flow forecasts, and multi-year projections.
• Experience developing KPIs, dashboards, and profitability analysis by product/service line.
• Proven ability to manage multiple client relationships and grow accounts.

Responsibilities

• Serve as fractional CFO for multiple clients and act as outsourced finance leader.
• Lead financial strategy including growth planning, capital needs, financing, and owner decision support.
• Build annual budgets and multi-year projections with variance tracking.
• Develop rolling cash flow forecasts including 13-week forecasts.
• Create KPIs and dashboards and track performance against targets.
• Advise on profitability, pricing, and margin improvement by product/service line.
• Lead client review meetings and translate results into actionable recommendations.
• Review month-end reporting and present results to clients.
• Provide technical accounting guidance on cash vs accrual and revenue recognition.
• Advise on internal controls, financial systems, and process improvements (QuickBooks or similar).
• Support financing, lender relationships, and banking conversations.
• Assist transaction due diligence and quality of earnings analyses.

Overview

We're hiring a Fractional CFO to serve as the outsourced finance leader for a portfolio of our business owner clients. We're looking for someone who brings rigor and curiosity in equal measure, with real CFO experience across a variety of environments, whether that's privately held companies, growth-stage businesses, or owner operated firms. You'll be confident and personable, comfortable sitting across from a business owner, and able to turn their numbers into a plan they can act on.

Responsibilities

• Serve as fractional CFO for multiple clients, acting as their outsourced finance leader and trusted advisor to ownership.
• Lead financial strategy, including growth planning, capital needs, financing, and owner decision support.
• Build annual budgets and multi-year projections, and track budget-to-actual variances to guide owner decision-making.
• Build and maintain rolling cash flow forecasts, including 13-week cash forecasts.
• Develop KPIs and financial dashboards, and track performance against targets.
• Advise on profitability, pricing, and margin improvement by product, service line, or entity.
• Lead recurring client review meetings that translate results into clear, actionable recommendations.
• Review month-end financial reporting prepared by the Sonnenburg team and present results to clients.
• Serve as the technical resource for the Sonnenburg team, answering accounting questions on cash basis and accrual basis treatment, adjusting entries, and revenue and expense recognition.
• Advise on internal controls, financial systems, and process improvements using QuickBooks or similar platforms.
• Support clients through financing, lender relationships, and banking conversations.
• Support transaction due diligence for clients buying or selling a business, including quality of earnings analysis, working capital review, and financial verification.
• Consult on special projects and strategic initiatives for clients as needed.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of accounting or finance experience.
• 5+ years of experience as a CFO (full-time or fractional).
• Strong advisory presence; comfortable explaining what the numbers mean and recommending what to do about it.
• Proven ability to build budgets, rolling cash flow forecasts, and multi-year financial projections.
• Experience developing KPIs, dashboards, and profitability analysis by product, service line, or entity.
• Proven ability to manage multiple client relationships at once, retaining and growing accounts over time.
• Strong communication skills; able to explain financial information clearly to business owners and to coach the Sonnenburg team.
• Ability to work independently, self-direct, and prioritize across competing client deadlines.
• Strong technical knowledge of GAAP, accrual and cash basis accounting, and conversions between the two.
• Excellent understanding of cash management and internal control procedures.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks and Excel; Financial Cents a plus.
• General understanding of income tax, payroll tax, and sales and use tax.
• General understanding of financial due diligence and quality of earnings.
• CPA or MBA preferred.

Pay: $50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5.0 -- 20.0 per week
