Job summary

Burkland Associates is seeking a seasoned Controller to lead full-cycle accounting for startup clients, implementing systems, mapping needs, selecting software, and setting up implementations.

This hands-on role oversees monthly and yearly closes, mentors accountants, and partners with clients to scale finance operations in a remote-first environment. A CPA/CMA is a plus; CPA preferred, with 5+ years progressive experience and a strong GAAP background.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or finance required or similar
• CPA or CMA is a bonus
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong GAAP knowledge and controls mindset
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities

Responsibilities

• Implement processes and systems for client accounting needs, including mapping requirements, selecting software, and setting up implementations
• Oversee monthly and yearly financial closes for client portfolios
• Manage accountants and processes for Burkland and clients
• Collaborate with clients to scale finance operations and improve controls
• Embrace startup agility and scrappy approaches
