Job summary

Knock is seeking a DevOps engineer to join a small but growing platform team. You will own and evolve the core infrastructure, deploying Terraform-backed EKS clusters and ensuring high reliability in a remote-first culture.

The role emphasizes on-call readiness, observability, and collaboration across a distributed engineering team. You will work closely with product engineers to improve deployment pipelines, cut cycle times, and maintain >99.95% uptime while documenting runbooks and internal

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a DevOps engineer or similar in a startup or mid-sized company.
• Experience with production Kubernetes clusters and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation accepted).
• Experience with complex AWS deployments (multi-account, VPCs for EKS).
• Experience operating/scaling databases (Aurora Postgres, Mongo, ClickHouse) or equivalent.
• Experience with queues/streams (SQS, Kinesis, Kafka or similar).
• Strong problem-solving for reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Excellent written communication in a distributed, remote-first team.

Responsibilities

• Adopt and modernize a Terraform-backed EKS cluster for elastic scale and reliability.
• Troubleshoot Postgres performance and plan 10x–100x scaling.
• Improve telemetry and traces in Datadog, CloudWatch, and Honeycomb; fix blind spots in codebase.
• Maintain and improve uptime above 99.95%.
• Support product engineering to move fast with Canary, blue/green deploys, and faster cycles.
• Participate in on-call rotations and write runbooks/internal docs.
