Job summary

ButterflyMX, Inc. seeks a Firmware Engineer to design, implement, and debug embedded software powering its access control and IoT hardware.

You will work across bare-metal, RTOS (Zephyr), and embedded Linux environments, writing production-grade code while solving hardware interactions and security challenges. The role requires strong C/C++ skills, hands-on firmware experience, and the ability to collaborate with hardware, software, and security teams to deliver reliable, scalable products.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on embedded firmware development experience (8+ years preferred for senior candidates).
• Strong C/C++ skills for resource-constrained embedded systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop Production-Ready Embedded Firmware across bare-metal, RTOS/Zephyr, and embedded Linux.
• Build low-level firmware for microcontrollers, peripherals, sensors, and power systems.
• Design architectures: main-loop, interrupt-driven, event-driven, multithreaded for timing and reliability.
• Own firmware from bring-up to EVT/DVT/PVT, production release, and post-launch support.
• Read schematics and collaborate with electrical/mechanical engineers on architecture and manufacturability.
• Develop secure device-to-cloud/ controller communication and secure OTA updates.
• Create ICDs, protocol specs, and documentation.
• Implement testing, CI/CD, and tooling to improve reliability and traceability.
