Job summary

Calbright College is seeking a Controller to lead accounting, payroll, and financial reporting in a primarily remote role across California. The position oversees month-end/year-end closes, internal controls, and coordination with auditors, reporting to the CFO.

You will supervise the Finance Division staff, ensure compliance with GAAP/GASB, and maintain cash management and financial systems critical to operations. Strong leadership and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in accounting or related field.
• Five to seven years of accounting, budgeting, and/or finance experience.
• Experience in education finance and/or administration.
• Experience in payroll accounting, processing, and compliance.
• Knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and FASB.
• Ability to lead monthly and annual close.
• Ability to establish internal controls and policies.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.

Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate day-to-day operations of AR, AP, payroll, procurement support.
• Maintain system of internal controls, policies, and procedures over accounting functions.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, and state/federal requirements.
• Provide guidance and training to Finance staff and departments.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and budget-to-actual analyses.
• Coordinate year-end close and audit activities; support auditor inquiries.
• Supervise Finance staff and manage performance.
