Job summary

Honeycomb is seeking a Field Reliability Engineer to lead technical engagements, build scalable platforms, and unblock the most complex customer situations. You will own architecture, instrumentations, and incident command for high-stakes deployments across multi-region AWS environments.

We value hands-on leadership, IaC mastery, and strong executive communication to guide customers and shape Honeycomb's observability tooling strategy.

Qualifications

• 9+ years in engineering, SRE, infrastructure, or equivalent with staff-level scope and impact.
• Deep hands-on Kubernetes (EKS preferred) deployment and operations at scale.
• Strong AWS expertise across core services and multi-account design.
• Track record of senior incident command and postmortems.
• Infrastructure as Code mastery (Terraform, Helm, Chef, Ansible).
• Deep observability expertise including OpenTelemetry and instrumentation.
• Proficiency in at least two languages (Go, Python, Java, TS/Node).
• Excellent executive communication with customers and leadership.
• Ability to steer direction in ambiguous, high-pressure situations.

Responsibilities

• Define platform architecture and operational standards for RaaS and HnyPC across AWS regions.
• Architect Terraform modules, Helm charts, and deployment automation.
• Set technical direction for instrumenting and operating managed infra.
• Own capacity planning, scaling, upgrades, and cost optimization.
• Build tooling to scale the FRE team and reduce headcount growth needs.
• Serve as final technical escalation for high-stakes customer situations.
• Lead multi-week escalations with customer SRE and leadership.
• Mentor IC3/IC4 engineers and provide career guidance.
• Engage with OpenTelemetry ecosystem and Honeycomb OSS strategy.
