Job summary

Merck is seeking a Community Engagement Specialist to advance non-promotional, field-based engagement with patient advocacy organizations, CBOs, health departments, and other community partners across IL, IN, WI and beyond. You will build durable relationships, capture insights on access barriers, and ensure community perspectives inform priorities.

In this role, you will coordinate with PI&E leadership, use playbooks and SOPs, travel up to 50% within the territory, and operate within

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required and a minimum of 3 years pharmaceutical/biotech experience -OR- community engagement, patient advocacy, or public health experience
• Strong project management and organizational skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to execute effectively in a field-based role

Responsibilities

• Use data, field observations, and qualitative feedback to evaluate engagement effectiveness and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
• Execute community engagement and relationship-building activities aligned to priorities
• Partner with PI&E leadership in planning and integration related to disease awareness and engagement
• Contribute to training and capability needs based on field insights
• Support field-based segmentation and targeting activities and track objectives
• Leverage insights to identify trends, barriers, and opportunities to enhance engagement
• Utilize playbooks, tools, and SOPs to ensure consistency and quality
• Maintain bi-directional communication between field engagements and headquarters
• Participate in team meetings and training calls
• Ensure all activities comply with legal, regulatory, and non-promotional requirements
• Use reporting tools to document engagements and support performance monitoring
• Identify opportunities to evolve engagement approaches and field models
