State of Michigan is seeking a Food Safety Inspector (Food Industry Field Scientist) to perform regulatory inspections across assigned areas, ensuring safe, wholesome food and compliance with rules for sanitation, construction, and labeling.

The role operates from a home workstation, requiring strong observation, communication, decision-making, and risk-prioritization abilities, with potential relocation within Calhoun, Eaton, Ingham, or Jackson County within 10 months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 10 credits in biology and/or chemistry as part of the program.
• One year of professional experience in enforcement of laws pertaining to production, transportation, and storage of food products for the 9, 10 or P11 levels.
• Willingness to relocate to Calhoun, Eaton, Ingham or Jackson County within 10 months or reside within 30 minutes of those counties.

Responsabilités

• Inspect retail stores, bakeries, warehouses, and food processing plants for compliance with state laws and regulations.
• Investigate foodborne illnesses and consumer complaints related to packaging and labeling of food products.
• Follow standard operating procedures from a home-based workstation to meet quality and timeliness standards.

Formation

Bachelor’s degree (animal science, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, environmental health, food science/technology, microbiology, toxicology, veterinary science, or related field with 10 credits in biology/chemistry)
