Job summary

Nektar Therapeutics is seeking an Executive Director or Senior Director, Medical Affairs to lead the development and execution of our Medical Affairs strategy. You will build capabilities, establish external relationships, and guide evidence-generation, scientific engagement, and launch readiness across the organization.

The role requires advanced medical training (MD/PhD/PharmD) with 7+ years of Medical Affairs leadership for Senior Director or 12+ years for Executive Director, plus immunology

Qualifications

• Advanced doctoral degree in a scientific, medical, or health-related discipline (MD/PhD/PharmD) required.
• 7+ years Medical Affairs leadership experience for Senior Director; 12+ years for Executive Director.
• Experience in immunology; dermatology or autoimmune inflammatory diseases preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and execution of Medical Affairs strategy for relevant programs and provide strategic direction for the function.
• Build and lead a high-performing Medical Affairs organization, including field medical teams; manage workforce planning and development.
• Establish partnerships with investigators, medical societies, patient advocacy groups, academic centers, and external experts to inform priorities.
• Oversee evidence-generation activities across phases I–IV and align with Clinical Development, Regulatory, Pharmacovigilance, Commercial, and other functions.
• Lead publication strategy and non-promotional medical materials, ensuring scientific accuracy and regulatory compliance.
• Provide medical leadership for launch readiness and lifecycle planning based on available evidence and unmet medical need.
• Maintain knowledge of treatment landscape and translate insights into strategy and cross-functional communication.
