Job summary

The Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks an Employee Relations Specialist to manage day-to-day employee relations and coordinate FMLA and parental leave. You will provide guidance to managers and staff to minimize legal risk and ensure compliance with federal/state laws and HHSC policies.

Responsibilities include advising on leave issues, conducting training, reviewing background information, and maintaining confidential records.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in human resources management, business or public administration or a related field is generally preferred.
• Experience in human resources or closely related field.
• Experience with the Family Medical Leave Act.
• Experience interpreting and applying human resources and related policies and procedures to employees, managers and the general public.

Responsibilities

• Consult managers and staff on HR issues including leave, background checks, drug testing, and workplace conduct per policy.
• Coordinate and monitor FMLA and Parental Leave and related leave programs.
• Review criminal history information and provide guidance on employment eligibility.
• Advise management and staff on FMLA, leave policies and procedures; prepare communications.
