Job summary

Grainger is seeking a senior software engineer to join a rapidly growing analytics team. You will design and build full‑stack solutions using React/Next.js on the frontend and Java or Python on the backend, with AWS or GCP cloud native patterns.

You will collaborate with product and data teams to translate requirements into scalable services, implement RESTful APIs, and deliver reliable, testable code in a DevOps‑focused environment. Hybrid work in Chicago area preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, related degree, or relevant work experience.
• 5+ years of experience designing, building, and deploying scalable software applications.
• 5+ years of cloud-native solutions with AWS or GCP.
• Proficiency in ReactJS frontend development.
• Solid experience with NodeJS (NextJS), Java (Spring), or Python for APIs.
• Proficiency in containerized development using Docker and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of AI tooling and applying it to automate tasks.
• CI/CD and monitoring
• RESTful API design proficiency.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and diagrammatically.
• Distributed systems experience.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Snowflake, or Kafka.
• Experience with chart.js or similar visualization libs.
• Proficient in TDD and testing frameworks.
• Familiarity with Terraform, Git, and Agile/Scrum processes.
• Proven collaboration across teams to improve engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and deploy web applications using React, Next.js, and Java/Python back ends.
• Collaborate with product managers to translate requirements into technical specs.
• Build reusable frontend components and scalable APIs.
• Evaluate tools and technologies for performance and applicability.
• Optimize applications for speed, scalability, and reliability.
