Job summary

Excellus BCBS is seeking a Managed Care Pharmacy Technician to support CDPHP member and client-based programs, optimize pharmacy benefits, and assist with prior authorization work under a licensed pharmacist. The role includes live calls to members, physicians, and pharmacists, plus on-call responsibilities.

The technician will monitor clinical algorithms, advise on pharmacy matters, and participate in ad hoc projects to support the pharmacy department. Remote work may be explored case-by-case.

Qualifications

• High school diploma; associates degree preferred.
• Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) strongly preferred.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology and diagnosis codes.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Ability to cover rotating on-call and late Friday shifts.

Responsibilities

• Review medical exception requests based on pharmacist-created algorithms.
• Assess prior authorization requests with criteria from physicians and pharmacists.
• Enter data and monitor member profiles for prior authorization.”
• Provide information to physicians and pharmacists about initiatives.
• Certify real-time authorization for prescriptions (vacation supplies, overrides, etc.).
• Implement formulary utilization tools (PA, quantity limits, step therapy).
• Collaborate with internal/external customers to resolve system issues with PBM/pharmacy benefit.
