Job summary

San Diego Food System Alliance seeks a Development & Communications Manager to oversee fundraising and external communications. The role combines strategy with hands-on work, building donor relations and coordinating messaging across campaigns, events, and digital channels.

Reporting to the Alliance Director, you’ll manage grant writing, donor stewardship, and communications planning, while guiding interns and collaborating with staff to advance equitable food access in San Diego County.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in resource development, grants, communications, or marketing
• Proven grant writing, donor cultivation, and donor benefit programs
• Experience creating promotional materials like pitch decks
• Strong organizational skills and detail orientation
• Excellent written and spoken communication

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan
• Cultivate and steward philanthropic relationships
• Oversee donor communications, research, proposals, and reports
• Manage the donor pipeline to meet revenue goals
• Design appeals and campaigns
• Lead external communications and press materials
• Publish newsletters, manage social media, and website content
