Job summary

Shawnee County is seeking an Assistant County Counselor to provide civil legal services under general supervision. The role supervises by the County Counselor and handles litigation, drafting, and research across state and federal courts and administrative agencies.

The position requires a JD and active Kansas bar admission, with expectations to draft legal opinions and assist with county matters, while offering the possibility of remote work.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of law with a Juris Doctorate or comparable degree.
• Licensed and in good standing to practice law before the Kansas Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the District of Kansas.

Responsibilities

• Litigate civil matters in State and Federal District Court and before Administrative Agencies.
• Draft resolutions, contracts, deeds, notices and memoranda on various legal topics.
• Assist with administration of County matters.
• Provide legal research for the County Counselor.
• Draft opinions for County Commissioners, Department Heads and County Counselor.
