Job summary

Burnaway seeks an Editorial Intern for hands-on experience and learning related to our editorial operations. As a growing nonprofit arts organization, Burnaway invites interns to collaborate and learn the skills and nuances of the field alongside our staff in a professional digital publishing environment.

Interns will work six hours a week during working hours (9 AM–5 PM EST Monday-Thursday). Internship duration is the week of September 14 to the week of December 14, 2026.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to manage short- and long-term projects.
  • Self-starter who isn’t afraid to ask questions.
  • Interest in publishing, art, or related topics.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining a robust editorial calendar.
  • Tracking the status of ongoing projects.
  • Requesting images.
  • Support rollout tasks related to the publication and release of the annual print reader.
  • Use WordPress to build pages for completed pieces for publication.
  • Compile events and opportunities for monthly Calls for Artists.
  • Draft and edit BA Daily posts including recurring content such as the Close Look and Calls for Artists.
  • Conduct relevant research about artists and writers in the coverage area.
  • Fact-checking.
  • Other tasks and duties may arise during internship duration.
