Job summary

Defense One, part of GovExec, seeks an experienced Staff Reporter to cover air and space warfare, including the U.S. Air Force, Space Force, and the contractors that serve them. You will break news, write articles, and moderate live events from our Washington, D.C.

newsroom. Expect enterprise stories linking service branches to current events and reporting from the Pentagon to remote outposts. Experience covering the military, defense, or intelligence is required, with travel to cover operations

Qualifications

• 3+ years of journalism experience related to defense and similar areas.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Digital newsroom skills.
• A spirit of generosity toward colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Report and write news on deadline.
• File frequent and clean copy.
• Travel occasionally to cover military operations, industry events, and more.
• Participate occasionally in news production, including posting to the site, editing photos, writing headlines and sending news alerts.
• Collaborate with other members of the Defense One newsroom.
