Job summary

UNFI is seeking a Database Engineer II to manage and evolve our database environment, ensuring scalable, secure, and highly available solutions. You will work under guidance to deliver effective database services across the organization, collaborating with IT and business teams on requirements and improvements.

You will apply expert SQL skills, tuning, disaster recovery planning, and cloud/virtualization experience to support enterprise DBMSs and ensure continuous operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline or a combination of relevant IT experience and education
• 5+ years’ experience administering MS SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or other DBMS’s
• 5+ years’ experience working in large scale database environments
• Experience with writing SQL and scripting languages (e.g., Transact-SQL, PL/SQL, PowerShell)
• Prior application programming experience is preferred
• Proven experience with database performance tuning using tools like SQL Profiler, Idera, AWR, ASH, ADDM, etc.
• Experience with server virtualization tools (VMware, Microsoft, Red Hat, Oracle, Amazon, Google)
• Experience with Cloud hosting (AWS, Microsoft, Google, Oracle, IBM)
• Experience using monitoring, capacity planning, analysis, and performance tuning tools (e.g., Idera, OEM, CloudWatch)
• Experience implementing highly available database solutions in large-scale environments
• Solid experience backing up and recovering databases
• Proven experience implementing and supporting disaster recovery plans

Responsibilities

• Gather business requirements through collaboration with IT and business teams
• Perform day-to-day administration of transactional databases to ensure availability
• Decide appropriate solutions for upgrades, patches, backup/recovery, monitoring
• Communicate solutions to team members and management
• Evaluate and execute requests and work orders
• Participate in implementation and optimization of enterprise infrastructure solutions
• Apply technical expertise to complex problem resolution
• Apply preventative maintenance to prevent incidents
• Collaborate with teams to promote automation and consistent build/implementation/support processes
• Observe and comply with change and incident management procedures
• Perform other duties as required
