Job summary

American Association for Public Opinion Research seeks an experienced freelance researcher with strong data science, research design, and translational research skills. You will partner with leadership across political, nonprofit, and corporate clients, handling diverse projects from survey design to data delivery.

You’ll work 30–60 hours per month across advocacy, messaging polls, and organizational climate surveys, collaborating with teams while delivering clear visualizations and insights.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in a quantitative social science field, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated ability to design and conduct quantitative research projects efficiently.
• Knowledge of polling and public opinion research principles.
• High proficiency in R and/or STATA as primary analysis tools.
• Experience with survey platforms such as Qualtrics or SurveyMonkey.
• Knowledge of data visualization best practices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and presentation software.
• Excellent writing, communication, and critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

• Draft public opinion surveys using best practices to answer key questions.
• Clean and process survey data, including developing weights.
• Produce toplines, memos, and data visualizations for deliverables.
• Design and execute projects using internal client data.
• Communicate quantitative results to diverse audiences.
