Job summary

DataKind is seeking a Data Integration Specialist to join a remote US contract-to-hire role. The candidate will map and transform data from SIS/LMS systems to build a unified data model for a major higher education initiative, ensuring accuracy and reusability for analytics.

You will work with ed-tech data, review diverse data columns, and implement cross-system mappings while upholding data governance and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Translate data from one structure to another, spotting fields that partly match and where meaning is lost.
• Write data dictionaries and mapping specs with traceability of data origins.
• Experience with data architecture and governance as a foundation for insights.
• Direct experience with higher education data schemas (SIS, LMS) and ed-tech data sources.
• Strong SQL and Python skills; understanding of data transformations and quality checks.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive data mapping and transformations to build a unified data model for a higher education product.
• Work extensively with higher education system schemas and databases (SIS/LMS).
• Review, prioritize, and analyze data columns from various ed-tech systems for inclusion in the integrated data model.
• Evaluate data mappings and transformations to ensure accuracy and consistency at every step.
• Contribute to advanced data transformation processes enabling cross-schema mapping (split/merge, filtering, if-then logic).
• Support data quality assurance using dbt and Great Expectations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teammates and external users to understand data needs and ensure the final data model meets real-world requirements.
• Attend calls and video meetings as required to support scope of work.
