Job summary

American Express in Alabama is seeking a Data Engineer to build and optimize data pipelines ingesting Visa and other transaction data, and to design data lake storage, processing, and delivery for authorization, clearing, settlement, and installment data.

You will create APIs and reports for partners and internal teams, develop proofs‑of‑concepts, collaborate with engineers across regions, and mentor junior engineers while promoting CI/CD and open‑source practices.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of programming with Java or Scala.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain data pipelines ingesting Visa and non‑Mastercard exchange information.
• Design and implement data lake storage, processing, and delivery for authorization, clearing, settlement, and installment data.
• Create APIs and reports to share processed data with partners and internal teams.
• Develop proof‑of‑concepts to evaluate new technologies and data solutions.
• Collaborate with engineers and partner product teams across regions.
• Write performant, maintainable code and enforce business logic and data integrity.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
• Champion a culture of experimentation, continuous improvement, and open‑source contribution.
• Maintain code quality through reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD practices.
