Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Data Engineer to design and build enriched datasets using medallion architecture in Databricks, sourcing from VA CDW and other systems. You will feed Power BI semantic models and work closely with clients to gather requirements, track work in JIRA, and deliver high-quality data pipelines.

This fully remote role requires strong SQL, PySpark/SQL in Databricks, and experience with Power BI data preparation, GitHub version control, and collaborative development across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree + 12+ years of experience or commensurate experience.
• Hands-on experience building data pipelines and transformations in Databricks (PySpark and/or SQL).
• Strong SQL skills including complex joins and performance tuning.
• Experience with Power BI data preparation for semantic models.
• Familiarity with GitHub for version control and collaboration.
• Experience using JIRA to track work and manage tasks.
• Strong client communication skills and ability to work with stakeholders.
• Understanding of medallion data architecture (bronze/silver/gold).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain enriched datasets following medallion architecture in Databricks.
• Develop, orchestrate, and monitor Databricks jobs and pipelines.
• Write efficient SQL to transform and model healthcare data.
• Prepare gold-layer datasets for Power BI semantic models.
• Manage code and version control via GitHub with team branching/reviews.
• Log and track work items in JIRA and coordinate with clients.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify data definitions and outputs.
• Perform data validation and quality checks across pipelines.
• Document data lineage, transformation logic, and business rules.
