Job summary

Ripjar, a remote-first data engineering team, seeks a Data Engineer to own ingestion services and distributed data processing. You will build scalable pipelines ingesting data from diverse sources, ensure reliability, and collaborate across CI/CD and observability efforts.

The role requires 2+ years in production software and proficiency in Python/Node.js, with a focus on performance and data contracts. UK-wide candidates welcomed; Cheltenham office optional.

Qualifications

• 2+ years building and operating production software systems.
• Fluency in at least one programming language (Python/Node.js a plus).
• Experience debugging moderately complex systems and improving reliability.
• Strong fundamentals: data structures, testing, version control, Linux basics.

Responsibilities

• Engineer distributed ingestion services that reliably pull data from diverse sources and deliver outputs to downstream products.
• Build high-throughput processing components with a focus on performance, scalability, and cost.
• Design and evolve data contracts (schemas, validation, versioning, backward compatibility).
• Own production quality with maintainable code, tests, and observability (metrics/logs/tracing).
• Improve platform reliability by hardening pipelines and codifying guardrails.
• Contribute to CI/CD and developer experience for faster builds and releases.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, incident retrospectives, and iterative delivery.
