Job summary

Recidiviz is hiring a Data Analyst to work remotely or from NYC/Oakland, joining a team that analyzes criminal justice data to drive data-driven decisions. The role emphasizes collaboration, attention to detail, and flexibility in a rapidly evolving environment.

We welcome candidates early in their data career who can explain findings clearly, work with messy data, and contribute to product launches with state partners. Travel to state partners is encouraged about once per year.

Qualifications

• 6+ months of practical experience exploring, analyzing, and cleaning real-world datasets.
• Strong SQL skills including joins, aggregations, and window functions.
• Experience with Python for data analysis and visualization.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Interest in criminal justice or public policy.

Responsibilities

• Exploring our datasets to find patterns and insights about American criminal justice systems.
• Carrying out well-scoped analyses with guidance from senior analysts and our State Engagement team.
• Supporting product launches in the states where we work by preparing analytical data and flagging data discrepancies.
• Building clear, well-documented visualizations and dashboards using our existing tools.
• Communicating findings to internal teams and presenting to state partners.
• Analyzing trends to understand how our products function.
