Job summary

Democracy Defenders Action in the United States seeks an Oversight Counsel for a remote, full-time role. You will apply legal research, writing, and analytical skills to support accountability, transparency, and ethics in government initiatives as part of the POE team.

Based in the DC/DMV orbit, with travel to meetings as needed, the candidate will report to the Deputy Director for Anticorruption and Ethics and collaborate across departments.

Qualifications

• JD degree from an accredited law school.
• Membership in good standing with a US state bar; DC bar waiver possible.

Responsibilities

• Identify, track, and respond to potential corruption, unethical activities, and misconduct by government officials.
• Prepare administrative complaints, regulatory comments, and FOIA requests, including related acts.
• Assist in legislative and policy reform initiatives, including research and drafting materials for hearings and meetings.
• Produce high-quality written content: policy reports, op-eds, summaries for long-term and rapid-response needs.
• Review financial disclosure reports and ethics documents for violations and conflicts of interest.
