Job summary

Definiti is a national retirement services company seeking a Controller to lead core accounting operations in a fast-paced, acquisitive, private equity-backed environment. The role balances strategic oversight with hands-on accounting execution and will initially manage four direct reports.

You will drive the monthly close, audits, and internal controls while advancing automation with Sage, FloQast, Ramp, Excel, and Copilot in a remote-first setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 5+ years accounting experience in controller/manager roles.
• 2+ years in people leadership required.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, revenue recognition, and internal controls.
• CPA preferred; PE-backed or professional services experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes per US GAAP.
• Oversee general ledger, reconciliations, accruals, revenue recognition, and reporting.
• Manage the annual audit and tax return processes and external coordination.
• Provide hands-on accounting support in a lean finance environment.
• Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team to deliver timely results.
• Support acquisition-related accounting and post-close integration activities.
