Job summary

The Xerces Society is seeking a Conservation Policy Analyst to support the Director of Conservation Policy and advance national and state policy work for invertebrate conservation. The Specialist will synthesize scientific information, interpret laws and regulations, and help build advocacy campaigns.

Remote-friendly role with travel up to 5 days per month. Join a team focused on biodiversity, pesticide policy, and habitat conservation across multiple states.

Qualifications

  • Experience analyzing legislation, regulations, or public policy issues.
  • Strong written communication for general public audiences.
  • Ability to interpret scientific information for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects.
  • Commitment to biodiversity conservation and environmental stewardship.
  • Ability to work remotely and independently.
  • Willingness to collaborate and engage respectfully with diverse stakeholders.
  • Self-starter with good time-management and prioritization.
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 5 days per month.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Track and analyze state and federal legislation, regulations, and agency actions relevant to invertebrate conservation and biodiversity.
  • Prepare briefs, summaries, memos, and background materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Draft policy comments, testimonies, fact sheets, and advocacy communications.
  • Support engagement with elected officials and agency staff.
  • Participate in coalitions, working groups, and partnerships with conservation organizations.
