Job summary

Allegheny Intermediate Unit's Marketing and Strategic Communication Department seeks a Communications Specialist to write, edit, and proofread communications for legislative outreach, crisis management, marketing and media relations.

You will develop marketing materials, online content and publications (print/digital), cover events (photos/video), and coordinate with the department to execute media outreach and communication strategies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Multimedia or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Three years of directly related experience preferred.
• Exceptional writing, editing, proofreading and sourcing skills.
• Ability to generate creative, well‑designed web, video, photo and social media content.
• Experience in the K‑12 field is preferred.
• Strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
• Positive attitude with a customer service mindset.
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage projects independently.

Responsibilities

• Writes, edits and proofreads communications and publications for legislative outreach, emergencies, marketing and media relations.
• Develops marketing materials, online content and publications (print/digital).
• Provides event coverage, including photos and video, potentially outside business hours.
• Coordinates with Marketing and Strategic Communication for media outreach.
• Furnishes creative ideas for multimedia platforms used by client groups and districts.
