Job summary

Mutual of Omaha is accelerating modernization of legacy applications for its Health & Annuities platforms. The role focuses on designing and delivering cloud-enabled solutions, leading modernization initiatives, and mentoring engineers in a fast-paced environment.

You will define roadmaps, migrate services to AWS/Kubernetes, and build APIs and data workflows while collaborating with architects, BI teams, and data engineers.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience leading modernization initiatives.
• Strong cloud experience (AWS, Kubernetes, TKG).
• Experience with Java-based applications and enterprise architecture.
• Designing integrations, APIs, and data-driven workflows.
• Proficient with GitHub, source control, and modern delivery practices.
• Ability to mentor engineers in Agile teams.
• Excellent communication with technical and business stakeholders.
• No sponsorship required.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute modernization roadmap for legacy applications.
• Migrate applications and services to AWS and Kubernetes environments.
• Design, build, and replace legacy Java systems, Access databases, and spreadsheet-driven processes.
• Develop integrations, APIs, backend services, and file-processing workflows.
• Partner with architects, BI teams, and data engineers for cloud data/reporting.
• Create and manage GitHub repos, CI/CD workflows, and engineering standards.
• Support vulnerability remediation and modernization of legacy infrastructures.
• Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across modernization initiatives.
• Participate in solution design, backlog refinement, and modernization strategy discussions.
• Contribute hands-on engineering work including coding, testing, and deployment activities.
