Job summary

California Lutheran University seeks a part-time Coordinator to oversee the 9-month online Certificate in Faith-based Community Organizing for Climate Justice. The role directs planning, promotion, and teaching for teams of 3–6 from congregations and communities to apply what they learn toward local climate action.

Responsibilities include updating curricula, coordinating outreach with partners, processing applications, and leading Zoom trainings for five teams every three weeks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a related field and/or 3+ years of experience.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with office and presentation design software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Track record in faith-based or other broad-based community organizing.

Responsibilities

• Update the curriculum for the Certificate in Faith-based Community Organizing for Climate Justice annually in collaboration with the Center for Climate Justice and Faith Leadership Circle.
• Coordinate identification/promotion/outreach to recruit teams in collaboration with The Center for Climate Justice and Faith, ELCA World Hunger, and others
• Collect and organize applications
• Coordinate review of applications and decisions regarding acceptance in collaboration with Center for Climate Justice and Faith Leadership Circle
• Plan and lead community organizing trainings for approximately five teams of 3-5 individuals every three weeks
• Organize and facilitate coaching sessions via zoom with those approximately five teams every three weeks
• Collect and research material for on-going curriculum enhancement and assessment
• Identify and engage programmatic resource people as needed
• Maintain participant relations (before, during, and long after course ends)
• Collaborate with other members of the Center’s Leadership Circle, as a member of that Circle, in monthly meetings and other venues.
• Communicate with Center Assistant Director regarding work with CLU offices in the following arenas: application, registration, and financial aid; program approval through CPE; issuing credentials
