Job summary

The Sierra Club seeks an Associate Press Secretary to lead media outreach and strategic communications across a portfolio of states. Remote work is supported, with preference for MST or PST locations.

Reports to the Regional Director of Communications and collaborates with regional teams and volunteers to advance climate justice and energy conservation goals. Responsibilities include developing narratives, coordinating press conferences, op-eds, media tracking, and mentoring state staff.

Qualifications

• Experience with media relations and public PR
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
• Ability to collaborate with internal/external partners
• Commitment to evolving understanding of systems of oppression
• Ability to train and coach staff and volunteers

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute communications strategy for a portfolio of states.
• Develop messaging, op-eds, press releases, videos, and talking points; coordinate media events.
• Track media coverage and manage rapid response.
• Build relationships with reporters and influencers.
• Train staff and volunteers in strategic communications and interview prep.
