Job summary

BrainWorks is seeking California-licensed civil defense attorneys to join its litigation practice. The firm welcomes attorneys at multiple levels with flexible work arrangements including in-office, hybrid, and fully remote options.

Responsibilities include managing cases, researching, drafting, depositions, and trial support. The role emphasizes client communication, independent work, and collaboration in a supportive environment with mentorship and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• J.D. from ABA-accredited law school.
• Active California Bar in good standing.
• 2+ years civil litigation experience; defense experience preferred.
• Strong research, writing, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
• Ability to manage multiple matters and deadlines.
• Strong client communication skills.
• Self-motivated, organized, and able to work independently and collaboratively.
• Deposition, motion practice, mediation, and trial experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Managing multiple cases from inception through resolution.
• Conducting legal research and drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery.
• Taking and defending depositions.
• Handling court appearances, hearings, mediations, and settlement conferences.
• Assisting with trial preparation and, where appropriate, trial participation.
• Reviewing and analyzing documents and discovery.
• Developing case strategy and communicating with clients, opposing counsel, and other parties.
• Managing deadlines and working efficiently and independently.
