Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a Cancer Registry Data Abstractor to interpret complex medical information from electronic records to support program activities, regulatory and accreditation needs. You will abstract data for the cancer registry, review medical history, diagnoses, and treatments, and ensure adherence to FORDS and state standards.

You will also perform case-finding, coding, and annual follow-up reviews while coordinating with HIT leadership and Cancer Center committees to maintain

Qualifications

Education: GED or higher; Associate's degree preferred.
Experience: minimum of 4 years in relevant registry work.
Certification: ODS – National Cancer Registry; NCRA credential preferred.

Responsibilities

Identify malignant or reportable conditions per FORDS, PA Registry, and Geisinger standards.
Review clinical data in EMR and hard copy records for extraction and accuracy.
Abstract primary, recurrence, and metastasis site data with demographics and treatment history.
Enter data into the cancer registry database and maintain accession files.
Perform follow-up to determine current disease status per FORDS guidelines.
Submit weekly PA Registry and quarterly state file submissions.
Develop policies and guidelines for HIM department.
Collaborate with Cancer Center Committee members to meet accreditation standards.
