Job Description
The Remote Camp Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the performance of their assigned areas, including Food Service and Housekeeping Departments. This role ensures adherence to NMS standards, policies, and procedures while fostering positive relationships with clients, customers, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee remote camp activities within the assigned area.
- Serve as the primary resource for Food Service and Housekeeping staff in the unit.
- Act as a backup resource for other areas as needed.
- Track and deliver performance metrics to meet key performance indicators.
- Coach and develop employees through formal coaching and succession planning.
- Advance NMS performance excellence strategies through continuous improvement.
- Promote a 'One Team' culture within the organization.
- Coordinate the delivery of assigned NMS services.
- Develop and implement business plans for assigned activities.
- Establish supervision systems and operating procedures.
- Ensure activities comply with business practices and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain client relationships, market services, and resolve issues.
- Lead and motivate staff through effective communication.
- Define and communicate responsibilities and authorities of employees.
- Assign tasks and inspect work for quality and standards compliance.
- Develop and manage operating budgets, including approval of expenditures.
- Create bid materials, cost, and manpower templates for catering contracts, and develop menus and scope of work for proposals.
- Support safety and continuous improvement programs.
- Demonstrate skills in activity management, teamwork, communication, and operational efficiency.
- Manage subordinate managers, supervisors, and staff, including hiring, training, performance appraisal, and discipline.
- Perform other duties as necessary for the department's success.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two years of college related to business or additional managerial experience if no college.
- Seven years of related hospitality, food service, housekeeping, or remote camp management experience, including two years of supervisory responsibility.
- Reliable attendance in remote settings.
- Ability to pass pre-employment testing, including background checks, drug tests, and physical assessments.
- Ability to live in dormitory-style accommodations and meet cleanliness standards.
- Adherence to safety guidelines and regulations.
- Proficiency in English reading, writing, and speaking.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for three years.
- Proven multitasking and organizational skills.
- Understanding of profit management and growth.
- Leadership skills for team building and training.
- Personal maturity, poise, and decision-making abilities.
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude towards challenges.
- Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and web applications.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and company policies.
- Strong communication skills.
Additional Information for Candidates Residing Outside Anchorage:
Pre-employment testing may require travel expenses; Anchorage is considered the point of hire for testing purposes. Candidates in Alaska for specific contracts may have testing scheduled near their residence. Employees are responsible for travel expenses to reporting locations.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Work occurs indoors and outdoors, often in Arctic weather. Noise levels are moderate to loud. Physical tasks include lifting up to 50 lbs., sitting, standing, walking, climbing, and other physical activities. Travel by plane or bus to remote camps is required. Specific physical tests include lifting, squatting, kneeling, stair climbing, and rest periods.
