Job summary

Orion Placement is seeking a California-licensed attorney to defend workers’ compensation matters in a remote role with proximity to Los Angeles, Sacramento, Orange County, or Ventura. You will manage a full caseload, open new files, develop litigation strategies, and appear before the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board as needed.

Qualifications

• Active California Bar license in good standing.
• 2+ years of California workers compensation law experience.
• Experience managing workers compensation matters and litigation responsibilities.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to independently manage deadlines and a full caseload.
• Strong work ethic, sound professional judgment, and commitment to ethical practice.
• Genuine interest in building a long-term career with an established defense practice.
• Law firm, in-house counsel, and solo practice backgrounds will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Manage a full caseload of California workers compensation defense matters with varying levels of complexity
• Open new files, evaluate claims, and develop effective litigation plans and case strategies
• Conduct written discovery, depositions, investigations, and other case development activities
• Prepare for and make appearances before the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board
• Communicate directly with clients, claims professionals, opposing counsel, and other parties throughout each matter
• Draft persuasive legal correspondence, pleadings, reports, and settlement documents
• Evaluate exposure and provide practical recommendations designed to move cases toward effective resolution
• Maintain organized files, deadlines, reporting requirements, and litigation calendars
• Collaborate with attorneys and support professionals while independently driving assigned matters forward
