The Hartford seeks an Associate Staff Attorney to join its California Workers’ Compensation team. This early-career attorney will handle defense matters under supervision, gaining practical litigation experience within an in-house environment.

You will develop case strategy, draft pleadings, and participate in depositions, hearings, and settlements while mentored by senior attorneys. This role is remote within California, with periodic in-person needs based on case requirements.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and active CA license.
• 0–2 years of legal practice; CA workers’ compensation experience helpful but not required.
• Strong legal research, writing, analytical and oral communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a remote, matrixed environment.

Responsibilities

• Handle California workers’ compensation defense matters under supervision.
• Develop case strategy through investigation, research, and file analysis.
• Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and settlement documents.
• Prepare for depositions, hearings, and WCAB proceedings.
• Communicate status and recommendations to Partners and stakeholders.
