Job summary

Weekday AI is seeking a Backend Security Engineer to contribute to the development and evaluation of next-generation AI systems. This contractor role offers flexible hours and remote work, around 15 hours per week, with pay of 30–100 USD per hour.

You will design secure backend tasks, implement deterministic verifiers, fix vulnerabilities, review code, and optimize performance. Strong experience in Java, Python, Rust, TypeScript, or similar is valued; prior AI experience is not required.

Qualifications

• Strong backend development experience using Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, TypeScript, Python, C++, or similar languages.
• Proven experience building scalable backend services, APIs, and production-grade apps.
• Strong debugging, automated testing, performance optimization, and code review skills.

Responsibilities

• Backend Engineering: design, develop, modify, and debug backend services and APIs.
• Security-Focused Task Development: create secure coding tasks including authentication and authorization controls.
• Automated Verification: implement deterministic verifiers and tests to validate code behavior.
• Application Security: identify and address vulnerabilities using OWASP and CWE guidance.
• Code Review and Analysis: review implementations for correctness, security risks, and performance.
• Debugging and Optimization: investigate defects and performance bottlenecks in large-scale apps.
• Code Refactoring: improve codebases with architectural enhancements.
• AI Evaluation: develop tasks to assess AI systems' software development, debugging, and security reasoning.
