Job summary

Loka, a globally distributed tech consultancy based in Silicon Valley, is seeking an Advanced Backend Engineer to design and implement backend solutions across multiple projects using Python and/or NodeJs.

You will join a remote-first team of 100+ certified experts and PhDs, work with LokaLabs for experimentation, and enjoy a culture focused on autonomy, ownership and continuous learning.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of backend development experience.
• Fluent in Python or NodeJs (TypeScript).
• Strong CS foundation.
• Understanding of API/Web protocols (OpenAPI, gRPC).
• Knowledge of concurrency concepts in APIs/Web.
• Experience with cloud services and both traditional and serverless architectures.
• Container-first development mindset.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement backend components across APIs, serverless functions, distributed services and data stores.
• Contribute to architectural trade-offs with performance and external constraints in mind.
• Implement security and data-protection best practices across systems.
• Raise the quality bar by maintaining tests and writing clean code and documentation.
• Collaborate with leads and clients to gather requirements and report deliverables.
• Follow career track, demonstrating technical excellence, autonomy and teamwork.
• Stay up to date with industry trends to incorporate cutting-edge techniques.
• Collaborate with ML and Data Engineering teams to ensure seamless backend integration.
• Take full ownership of assigned tasks and projects.
