Job summary

Red Hawk Technologies is seeking a backend software engineer to design, develop, and test scalable server-side applications and services using Java, Node.js, and PostgreSQL. The role involves deploying cloud infrastructure on Azure and working directly with clients to gather requirements and communicate progress.

Candidate should have 5+ years of software engineering experience, strong Java/Node.js skills, and proficiency in database design, RESTful APIs, Git, and modern DevOps practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with direct client-facing work.
• Strong programming skills in Java and Node.js.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and relational database design.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure (App Services, Azure Functions, Azure SQL/Storage, or similar).
• Experience with RESTful API design and development.
• Experience with Git and other version control systems.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
• Excellent client management, communication, and teamwork skills; able to present technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
• Understanding of modern DevOps principles.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test backend applications and services using Java, Node.js, and PostgreSQL.
• Design, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure and services on Microsoft Azure.
• Partner directly with clients to gather requirements, provide technical recommendations, and communicate progress and tradeoffs clearly.
• Work with other engineers to design and implement software architecture, including APIs and microservices.
• Write unit tests and follow test-driven development practices.
• Translate business requirements into technical specifications alongside product managers and stakeholders.
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and security.
• Debug and troubleshoot software issues across the stack, including in live client environments.
• Manage client expectations and priorities on multiple concurrent projects.
