Job summary

Nearshore Cyber is seeking a senior security architect for a part-time, hourly remote engagement focused on securing a hybrid Azure environment for healthcare workloads. Lead security design across identity, networks, and governance, and collaborate with an MSSP to align telemetry and monitoring.

The role emphasizes ransomware resilience, immutable backups, and alignment with HIPAA requirements, with US-based stakeholders and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

• Seven or more years in information security, incl. ≥3 years designing Azure in production.
• Hands-on depth in Azure network security (hub-and-spoke, NSGs, ExpressRoute, route control).
• Experience designing Azure governance: landing zones, subscriptions, RBAC, Policy, baselines.
• Experience with Defender for Cloud, Sentinel or SIEM, and Azure Policy.
• Designing backup, recovery, DR for ransomware, including immutability/isolation.
• Healthcare regulatory experience (HIPAA) and BAAs.
• Professional English fluency for live technical discussions with US stakeholders.
• Availability overlap with US Pacific hours.

Responsibilities

• Produce and own the security design for the Azure environment across identity, infrastructure, networking, governance, policies, logging, and monitoring.
• Identity and access control: design Entra ID, Conditional Access, PIM, and RBAC for least-privilege access.
• Hardening AVS, Azure VMs, and supporting services against baselines and review live builds.
• Define segmentation and traffic controls across ExpressRoute, firewalls, VPNs, and internet egress.
• Shape management group structure, Azure Policy, baselines, and security standards.
• Define log sources, retention, and detection coverage in Defender for Cloud and Sentinel or MSSP platform.
• Advise on ransomware resilience with Azure primary and hosted site secondary with immutable backups and RPO/RTO.
• Join MSSP sessions to specify telemetry Azure and firewall needs.
• Map controls to HIPAA and recognized frameworks; document decisions for client, insurer, and auditors.
• Mentor delivery engineers to embed security into development.
