Job summary

Ethereum Technologies is seeking an experienced Kafka Platform Engineer to design, deploy, and operate scalable Apache Kafka and Confluent clusters across production and non-production environments.

You will monitor health, optimize performance, implement security controls, and partner with data teams to enable reliable streaming workloads. Remote US-based role with on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications

• 3+ years hands-on experience administering enterprise Apache Kafka or Confluent Platform environments.
• 3+ years troubleshooting Kafka broker, replication, lag, and Connect failures.
• 3+ years automating infra with Terraform and Ansible, with Git-based CI/CD.
• Experience with highly available Kafka architectures and cross-cluster replication.
• Deep understanding of TLS, SASL, ACLs, RBAC, and audit controls.
• Experience with observability dashboards (Prometheus/Grafana/OpenSearch).
• Strong client-facing communication and documentation in English.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and maintain scalable Kafka/Confluent clusters across prod and non-prod.
• Monitor health, performance, replication, and consumer lag; troubleshoot incidents to minimize downtime.
• Build topics, replication, schemas, and connectors (S3, Trino, OpenSearch); assist product teams.
• Implement security controls, encryption, authentication, and certificate lifecycle practices.
• Automate provisioning and upgrades with Terraform, Ansible, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Plan and test DR procedures and cross-cluster replication for resilience.
• Lead on-call rotation, document root causes, and coordinate with multiple teams.
