Job summary

Cignus Consulting is seeking an Aviation Analyst Intern to support runway and surface safety research. You will review audio and surveillance data, annotate actions, and build ground-truth datasets to evaluate model performance.

Remote or hybrid work options with in-office availability in Leesburg, VA are offered. The role emphasizes practical aviation operations knowledge, attention to detail, and ability to work with Python notebooks.

Qualifications

• Current student or recent graduate in aviation management, aerospace engineering, professional flight, air traffic management, or related discipline.
• Aviation background through flight training, ATC coursework or airport/work experience.
• Working familiarity with ground control frequencies and anticipating next steps.
• Consistency and attention to detail across long annotation tasks.
• Familiarity with Python notebooks or ability to develop skills quickly.

Responsibilities

• Review archived ground and tower audio, correct transcriptions, and annotate what was said to build evaluation sets.
• Annotate aircraft and vehicle movements in surveillance and camera data, identifying actions and ambiguity.
• Compile a register of runway incursions and anomalous events from FAA Runway Safety sources and related databases.
• Produce ground-truth datasets to measure detection rate, false alert rate, and lead time of alerts.
• Coordinate quarterly reviews with our expert panel of controllers, pilots, and airport operations staff.
