Job summary

Birch Agency is seeking a qualified Virtual Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) to provide remote interpreting support for a student during a temporary coverage period in September.

This part-time contract role is fully virtual with morning hours, Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–11:10 AM, during the student's first three periods. Starting pay is $40/hour; ASL fluency and an EIPA 3.5+ are required, with preferred interpreting credentials.

Qualifications

• ASL fluency required.
• EIPA score 3.5+ required.
• Educational interpreting experience preferred.
• Interpreting credential or certification preferred.
• Comfortable providing interpretation through a virtual platform.
• Strong communication, professionalism, and reliability.
• Able to commit to the scheduled coverage dates and morning hours.

Responsibilities

• Provide real-time ASL interpretation through a virtual platform.
• Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and classmates.
• Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, assignments, and educational content.
• Support the student's full participation in classroom activities.
• Adapt interpreting approaches to meet the student's communication needs.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow professional interpreting standards.
• Communicate with school staff regarding any interpreting-related needs or concerns.
• Provide consistent communication access throughout the scheduled instructional periods.
