Job summary

Speechify is seeking an experienced Android Team Lead to own core product work and uplift how the team collaborates. This hands-on role requires coding, code reviews, and delivering features end-to-end with a strong emphasis on reliability and maintainable architecture.

You will lead a distributed team to ship timely updates, reduce manual interventions, and mentor junior engineers while working closely with Product and Design. Remote; U.S.-based candidates preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, including team leadership or owning a major surface while remaining hands-on.
• Rock solid Kotlin, Coroutines, Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests.
• Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work.
• Understanding of testing importance and approaches.

Responsibilities

• Own major features end to end, from design to release with the design team.
• Maintain and improve reliability metrics for key features.
• Review pull requests with meaningful feedback.
• Unblock the team when blockers appear.
• Champion the correct version across the team.
• Keep shared code in working order and consolidating versions.
• Lead changes in process when beneficial.
• Reduce manual release steps and automate where possible.
• Address recurring issues with underlying solutions.
• Shift verification left and enhance nightly QA builds.
• Plan sprints so attention focuses on undecided work.
• Assess review needs and standardize approvals.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering early.
• Handle critical issues and nightly QA releases.
• Mentor junior engineers for learning and growth.
