NAMI Chicago is hiring a full-time 988 Lifeline Crisis Counselor to provide immediate crisis intervention and empathetic support to individuals in distress. The role requires a Bachelor’s in social work, psychology, or related field, with 1–5 years of crisis experience; Master’s degree preferred.

You will work from a home office in the Chicago area and attend trainings at our office as needed. Responsibilities include crisis intervention, safety assessments, de-escalation, safety planning,

Qualifikationen

• Bachelor’s degree required in social work, psychology, counseling or related field.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 1–5 years of counseling or crisis experience.
• Experience with telephonic outreach and crisis/case management.
• Familiar with community resources and working with law enforcement/organizations.
• Experience with vulnerable populations.

Aufgaben

• Provide crisis intervention via calls, chats, and texts while following 988 Lifeline policies.
• Practice empathetic active listening to understand emotions and needs.
• Assess safety and risk using established models and protocols.
• De-escalate crises and develop safety plans with contacts.
• Refer to mental health services using vetted community resources.
• Document interactions with confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
• Collaborate with crisis team and other professionals for comprehensive support.
• Engage in ongoing training and wellness activities.
