Job summary

Woodard & Curran is seeking a mid-level Remediation Project Engineer in Middletown, CT, to support and manage diverse remediation projects.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, develop designs, evaluate bids, and mentor junior staff while collaborating with clients and regulators in a flexible hybrid environment.

Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of professional experience with an environmental/engineering consulting firm.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited program. Master's degree desirable.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer-In-Training (EIT) is strongly preferred.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and safe work practices mandatory.
  • Experience developing project scopes, cost estimates, and technical proposals, as well as implementing construction and remediation programs.
  • Technical experience in the design and implementation of site remediation programs, including feasibility evaluations, remedy selection and optimization, design, operation, and lifecycle management of remedial treatment systems, in situ and ex situ treatment system technologies, site civil engineering and stormwater management design, and local/state/federal permitting.
  • Remedial project management experience (scope, schedule, budget, risk, and resources).
  • Experience managing remediation contractors and construction activities in the field.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to mentor, coach, and develop junior staff.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel. Experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, stormwater modeling software, contaminant fate and transport modeling software, Python/R, and/or database software is preferred.
  • A desire and drive to deliver innovative and effective services and to grow professionally and personally in an employee-focused, supportive work environment.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and 10-hour OSHA Construction training is a plus.

Who are we looking for?

Woodard & Curran has an opportunity for a mid-level project engineer who can support and manage a diverse range of challenging and engaging remediation projects. The selected candidate will be a key contributor to an integrated and multi-disciplinary team that provides high-quality remediation and consulting services to our industrial, commercial, and municipal clients. The selected candidate will report directly to Project Managers in our National Environmental Remediation Practice and work directly with a diverse and talented group of engineers and scientists. The ideal candidate is a mid-level engineer with strong technical experience delivering high-quality remediation and consulting services to projects located across the firm's geography and core markets. The successful candidate will be an energetic, motivated, growth-oriented professional who can work independently and lead multi-disciplined project teams.

  • Designing and implementing in situ and ex situ remediation technologies and performance monitoring programs.
  • Leading field activities for pre-design investigations to advance remediation programs at complex remediation sites.
  • Evaluating treatability test and field pilot study results to support teams in selecting, designing, and constructing full-scale remediation activities.
  • Designing and optimizing the operations and performance of groundwater pump-and-treat remediation systems.

  • Conducting corrective measures/feasibility studies
  • Developing detailed remedial designs including preparation of construction drawings, technical plans, engineering cost estimates, and specifications
  • Evaluating remediation construction bids
  • Estimating costs and developing and managing the scope, schedule, and budget for various project tasks
  • Designing in situ and ex situ soil, sediment, and groundwater remedies
  • Preparing technical reports in compliance with applicable environmental regulations
  • Selecting, coordinating, and managing subcontractors
  • Evaluating and mitigating vapor intrusion sites
  • Managing remedial construction activities
  • Managing and evaluating environmental data
  • Remediating and/or redeveloping Brownfields sites
  • Collaborating with project staff, clients, and regulatory agencies
What will you need to succeed?

$90,000 - $110,000 a year

The anticipated compensation range for this position is based on several factors, including the candidate's qualifications, experience, education, skills, and primary work location. Final compensation will be determined based on these factors and adjusted, where applicable, by a geographic differential. Geographic differentials are percentage-based adjustments that reflect variations in labor market costs across locations. As a result, the compensation range for this position may vary depending on where the successful candidate is located and performs their work. The examples below illustrate how compensation for this role may differ across geographic markets.
